About Addiction

Addiction is the biggest public health problem that faces our country today, and is one of the premiere challenges that our society needs to address. All over the world, people’s lives have been torn apart by the spread of addiction, and this problem has only continued to get worse over the past decade. The good news, though, is that the spread of addiction and the immediate need to address this problem has led to a greater understanding of addiction as a medical problem, rather than a behavioral one, and has led to more research into how to fight this brain disease.

One of the biggest threats to our ability to solve the problems of addiction is in the way that we continue to view addiction as a moral failing, rather than as a medical issue. This has led to increasing alienation towards addicts, which only makes the hold of addiction even stronger. By viewing addiction as a medical problem, it leads us down a path where we actually are able to come up with solutions in a pragmatic manner that can heal people physically, mentally, and spiritually.
