Addiction Recovery within the LDS Faith

Addiction is a disease that cannot be easily treated or cured. Many individuals who struggle with addiction don’t want to continue using drugs and alcohol, but feel helpless to fend off the demons that drive them to these vices in the first place. It can be difficult to take that first step and admit that you need help, but we can and will help you through the worst parts of withdrawal and recovery, and bring you back into the embrace of Heavenly Father’s arms and find forgiveness.

At Lion’s Gate Recovery, we understand that substance abuse has you imprisoned in a cycle that you cannot break free from on your own. We have established a program of love, faith, and support that will help guide you back onto the right path. Whether it’s a helping hand or a shoulder to lean upon, we are devoted to offering a caring, understanding environment to help you kick the habits that have you bound and bring you back into the light.

LDS Recovery at Lion’s Gate

Our recovery program differs from traditional drug rehabilitation programs by following a philosophy that is in harmony with teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS). We place an emphasis on the teachings of the LDS faith to help guide recovering addicts and alcoholics through the process of recovery while employing the principles of the teachings of the Gospel. These principles are taught as a 12-step recovery program.

Every recovering addict will have a unique recovery experience, but will still follow the same basic steps. The program will begin with a detox period before you delve into the deeper part of the program that is designed to assist you with healing your mind, body, and soul. Our staff is trained to help guide you through the process and re-introduce you to the love and forgiveness of Heavenly Father.

Recovery at Lion’s Gate will teach you to relinquish control of your life to a higher power and learn to forgive yourself. Acceptance and positivity are practiced at Lion’s Gate Recovery and you will not be judged by staff. We encourage supportive relationships and placing your faith in the hands of Heavenly Father to help guide you through this difficult period.

Our Mission

Our goal at Lion’s Gate is to surround you with love, spirituality, and understanding. The Church of Latter Day Saints has established a recovery program which we follow and provide you with the following tools:

– Exploring the reasons why you use

– Treat those causes by implementing the 12 steps of the program

– Re-establish your broken relationships with friends and families by forming healthy connections and disposing of the hurtful or destructive relationships that lead to a relapse

Following a successful completion of the program, we act as a continuing resource for your continued success with a clean and sober lifestyle centered on your faith and love of God and His plan of happiness.

Counselors

Our counselors are your first introduction to the secure, safe, and calm environment of Lion’s Gate Recovery. Counselors are available 24/7 to talk to over the phone or in person if you simply need someone to listen to you, are seeking guidance, or you feel the need for spiritual counsel. We are here for anyone currently in our program, individuals who have completed the program and need reassurance or support, and those who have not taken the first step to enter our program, but would like to discuss the possibility of entering a recovery program. We are not here to judge, pressure, or scold you for your actions, decisions, or poor choices. Our role is to act as a bridge between yourself, your LDS faith and Heavenly Father, so that His love and teachings can help you heal and recover.

The Program

Our program is built from a foundation provided by LDS teachings and principles of faith. We focus on a healing and recovery process that places an emphasis on Heavenly Father’s love.

Detox

Like any substance abuse recovery program, you will need to go through a medical detox to rid your body of all of the toxins in your system. This process can be unpleasant, but our staff and counselors will be at your side for the duration of the detox. A detox will also be performed on your social life as a result of your choice in entering recovery. Once removed from the people and places where you are most vulnerable to the triggers of your addiction, you will be cleansed of these bad influences and temptations.

The 12 Steps

Following detox, you will begin an LDS 12-step program that was created using gospel principles.

Honesty. This step is the most important step in your recovery process. You must admit that you cannot overcome your addictions and must seek help elsewhere.

Hope. You must open yourself to Heavenly Father’s love and guidance and accept that His power can help you overcome your addictions.

Trust in God. You will let go of your control and place your trust and faith in your Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Truth. Uncovering the truth, however painful or unpleasant, is an important step in the healing process. This step takes deep introspection and a personal accounting of past indiscretions and bad behavior.

Confession. Confessing to your Heavenly Father the poor decisions and hurtful behavior you have engaged in allows you to take responsibility for your choices and gain a better understanding of the harm you have inflicted upon yourself and others.

Change of Heart. This step helps prepare you to open yourself up to Heavenly Father’s healing by the cleansing of your weaknesses and vices.

Humility. Now is the time to ask Heavenly Father for his divine intervention to remove the disease of addiction.

Seeking Forgiveness. You must make a written list of people you have hurt or wronged while under the influence of your addictions. This list could consist of close family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and anyone else that has been affected by your addiction.

Restitution and Reconciliation. This step is perhaps the most difficult for recovering addicts. You will contact every person on your list to make restitution and reconciliation if possible. This is not always easy to accomplish, because the hurt that was caused make be too deep, too fresh, or the person who was hurt may not be ready to hear you out yet. Learning to accept and respect the feelings of others is another important component of this step.

Daily Accountability. You must take responsibility for your behavior every day, admit when you are wrong or have made a mistake, and quickly own this sleight.

Personal Revelation. Practice prayer and learn to reflect on the will of Heavenly Father and His plan for you.

Service. Take the opportunity to share your reawakening and renewal of faith with others as you continue to practice your steps each day.

Treatment

Though our program at Lion’s Gate Recovery follows a 12-step program, we pride ourselves in catering to individual needs. We understand that the solution for one person is not the solution for all, so we do our best to focus on principles and skills that will help you the most. Some individuals may have certain triggers that take special focus and concentration to overcome, and we will take our time to work on what is necessary for the best possible results and your continued sobriety.

Family and Social Support

Entering a treatment program often means leaving behind people you care about, even if those people may not be the best people to have around you. Once you enter our facility, in either the  inpatient or an outpatient program, we fill the role of friend and will eventually become your family away from home. This is especially helpful for those who have turned their back on their loved ones, or have had their family turn their backs on them. Having a support system is vital to the success of your recovery and we will gladly assume that role for as long as we are needed. Heavenly Father will also play a big role in your LDS support system, and you can rely on Him during your toughest times.

Aftercare

Leaving Lion’s Gate Recovery is often just as much of a transition as starting our LDS Addiction Recovery Program. But bear in mind, we are always available by phone. We are here to talk, help arrange meetings for you to attend, and to continue counseling and therapeutic services as needed. Your physical and spiritual healing is our top priority no matter how long ago you completed our program. You can fight addiction and conquer the disease that has kept you from feeling Heavenly Father’s love for too long. Our aftercare program is designed to keep your heart open to Heavenly Father’s spirit to guide you through sobriety successfully.
